This Range of Manually Operated Fixtures were supplied to a Tier 2 Subcontractor to the Automotive Industry to produce a family of Steering Column Components for the new Range Rover.
The Machine tool is an OKK Horizontal Machining Centre – to the latest specifications – our brief was to supply an effective and economical Workholding Solution in extra quick time. The First operation from Die Casting was to produce a number of features, in particular a location diameter for the second operation.
The holding was executed in two cast “vee” grooves by means of a fixed and moving male “vee” within a fixture block. The second operation utilises a fixed Mandrel, with stud, nut and C washer clamping, location and orientation of the part being critical.
The Tombstone Fixture is mounted on a 400mm x 400mm Base. There are Multiple locations for each individual clamping fixture to allow more or less stations to be used as required. We have recently supplied a second group of similar fixtures to this customer to cope with increased demand for components.
